Sermons
At St. Barnabas, we believe that both the Ministry of the Word and the Ministry of the Table, or Holy Communion, are vitally important and are central to our worship. We also believe that worship in an 'embodied experience.' Together we gather, stand, kneel, sing, listen, respond, and come forward to receive communion. Listening to God's Word explained through the sermon is best done within the context of the gathering of God's people. While we appreciate the value of technology that allows people to listen to sermons online -- particularly during COVID, the downside is that listening to sermons online can replace the lived experience of belonging to a local parish. The Christian life is meant to be done in fellowship; that's often where the real challenges of our discipleship take place, it's where the encouragements and joys of a shared life with other Christians happens, and it's where we learn to live together by grace! If you are interested in listening to our preaching, we invite you to join us in person for a few Sundays and stay for a light lunch afterwards.
At the same time, we also realize that the option of joining us on a Sunday morning is not always possible for everyone due to distance or because one is housebound. If you would like to receive a digital or an audio version of our sermons, please contact us at stbarnabaswilsonville@gmail.com or call or text our pastor at (519) 774-2200.
Who We Are
St. Barnabas Anglican Mission is located in Wilsonville, just a short drive from Brantford and Paris, Ontario. We are a local expression of Christ’s One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. As a congregation of the Anglican Diocese of Canada, we also belong to the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA).
Each Sunday, we gather to hear God’s Word, pray, and receive Holy Communion.
We embrace what the Bible says about God, mankind, and salvation. The good news of the gospel is at the heart of everything we do: the God who is love sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to take away the sins of all people. Jesus lived a perfect life in accordance with the Torah, was crucified in solidarity with sinners, defeated death by His bodily resurrection, ascended into heaven, and now reigns in glory as Lord. Jesus is the ruler of the kings of the earth. The day is soon coming when Jesus will return in glory and fully establish his kingdom on earth.
Through Jesus, God freely offers forgiveness, righteousness, and eternal life to all who believe in the gospel promises. Apart from faith in Jesus, no one can be saved. We believe salvation is entirely by God’s grace, not earned by good works but received by faith. This grace leads us to new life in the Holy Spirit: joyful obedience, lifelong transformation, and the hope of resurrection.
Our worship is grounded in Scripture and shaped by the Book of Common Prayer (2019). This means that our liturgy, theology, and intellectual life are deeply rooted in the ancient Catholic Creeds and the historical documents of the English Reformation. We are grateful for the renewal of the Anglican Communion brought about by the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON).
If you’re exploring the Christian faith or looking for a church home, you’re warmly invited to join us.

Our Pastor
Rev. Dr. Ken Herfst, OblSB PhD
After many years of ministry in Guatemala as a church planter, Bible translator, Seminary Professor, pastor and director of a Christian Relief and Development Agency, Ken and his wife Jackie, returned to Canada. He taught Urban and Intercultural Ministry for 6 years at Redeemer University near Hamilton. They moved to the Brantford area in early 2025 and discovered St. Barnabas Anglican Mission. Through a careful discernment process, God called Ken to serve our parish and on March 28, 2026, Bishop Dan Gifford ordained him as a transitional Deacon and appointed him to serve St. Barnabas as Deacon-in-Charge. Together as a parish, we look forward to what God will do in us and in our surrounding communities.
Ken obtained a PhD with a focus on missional ecclesiology from the Panamerican University in Guatemala City under the supervision of Drs. Samuel Berberian, Hugo Mazariegos and José Ramiro Bolaños. He is also a trained spiritual director and a Benedictine Oblate affilitated with Mt. Saviour Monastery in Upstate New York. He deeply appreciates the Benedictine roots of the Book of Common Prayer and believes that classical Anglicanism is uniquely poised to respond to our culture's spiritual hunger.
Ken works part-time with the Henri Nouwen Society as their Director of Hispanic Ministries and serves with the Kirby Laing Centre for Public Theology in Cambridge, UK, as their Director of Spirituality.
Ken and Jackie have five married children who live in four different countries. They are blessed with thirteen grandchildren.
We'd love to hear from you! Whether you have questions about our church, need prayer, or want to plan a visit, we’re here to help. Please feel free to reach out.
